Mourning dress (once black, now faded) worn by Queen Victoria to her first Privy Council on June 20, 1837, the day of her accession to the throne.At six in the morning on 20 June 1837, Victoria was awoken by her mother. Clothed only in her dressing gown, she met the Lord Chamberlain who told her the king was dead and that she was now queen.
