One idea that has spread around the globe is PARK(ing) Day, an annual event in September in which curb parking spaces are transformed into people places for a day. It all started in San Francisco in 2005, when a design firm called Rebar turned a single on-street parking space into a temporary public park with sod, a bench, and a tree. In 2011, the event grew to nearly 1,000 PARK(ing) Day parks in 162 cities worldwide. Parklet-Mission-District-San-Francisco
