Carved dark tortoise shell decorative comb. It is curved to fit nicely tucked into the fancy buns, twined braids and other hairstyles worn low at the back of the head in the 1850s and 1860s. It is 4.25 inches (10. cm) tall and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide across the carved top.
1862 Godey's. Blue velvet net with coronet. Not netted, just crossed and held together with stitched-on gold beads. Coronet is blue velvet with a "scroll" of gold cord. Blue velvet plait, cord, and tassels.
