Remember Sunday school growing up?  I don’t, really.  I went to church a few times as a kid but it was not part of our family ritual.  And, as I have shared in previous posts, my dad came over on Sunday’s to pick me up and that was our day together.  So, I only heard about Sunday school until we had kids of our own and we got that annual pastoral whuppin about volunteering in the Sunday school or there won’t be any.

Given the significance of this day in the life of our country and the great memories it conjures up in  the life of our family, I guess it’s only fitting that it will provide another memory in the coming years.  Today our daughter leaves (again) to begin her first post-college graduation job in Dallas, TX.  By this time you’d think that I’d be used to saying good-bye without the heaviness associated with the departure.

Given the significance of this day in the life of our country and the great memories it conjures up in the life of our family, I guess it’s only fitting that it will provide another memory in the coming years. Today our daughter leaves (again) to begin her first post-college graduation job in Dallas, TX. By this time you’d think that I’d be used to saying good-bye without the heaviness associated with the departure.

What might happen if instead of making excuses for our kids or not expecting much, we raised the bar earlier in their lives?  Might we find that they are up to the challenge?  Hmm..
