Ellie Simmonds takes silver in S6 100m at Paralympics 2012. Ellie was denied a third gold medal of the London 2012 Games by a phenomenal swim and world record from Victoria Arlen of the United States. The American, who almost missed the Games after classification controversy, held off the 17-year-old's challenge to finish in one minute 13.33 seconds. Congratulations to Victoria who only started swimming 2 years ago.
Swimmers young and old helped to deliver ParalympicsGB's first medals in the pool on day one, with Nyree Kindred and Hannah Russell, 15 years her junior, both taking silver to the delight of a home crowd starved of swimming success this summer.
