Scottish basket-hilted Broadsword Dated: late XVIII century The sword comes with a straight blade marked ‘JJ RUNKEL Solingen’. Runkel was a bladesmith that had his workshop in Solingen circa 1790. This piece is an officer sword, while the actual troops were solely armed with a musket and a bayonet. The sword has an outstanding steel hilt typical of the “broadsword” style. The scabbard (which is lost) must have been in leather and steel.
