Part I. Zheng He (1371-1433 AD), served Emperor Yongle, of the Ming, as the admiral of seven naval expeditions from 1405 to 1433. He commanded the greatest naval enterprise undertaken by China, a huge fleet of seven hundred ships and 30,000 men. The first three voyages were to India, Ceylon, and Southeast Asia. On the 4th voyage, Zheng He ventured into the Persian Gulf; the later voyages were to the Arabian peninsula and the east coast of Africa.
