Early 2014: Decided to pull the old truck into the shop and give it some attention.  Bought a new 6V battery (expensive), tossed in some gas with lead additive of course, changed the oil and canister filter, new coolant...it started up....ran a little rough, but I had no idea what I was going to experience after I shut it off.....

March 2014 ~ in shop to get the old 6 running.  Will be selling the 1958 235 6cyl, orig '51 4-speed/torque tube, to be replaced with '69 GMC 4-bolt 350, TH700R4 trans, updated rear.

Head casting number-it was a lot of fun researching this.Turns out that this head was used on the high-performance early Corvettes with the 6-cylinder engines prior to the '55 introduction of the GM V8. Reportedly this is a highly sought-after head  for those rebuilders. Date code is Aug. 22, 1957.

Head off-cleaned up, re-lapping the valve seats the old-fashioned way, by hand with compound.

Cleaned up rocker arm assembly, paying particular attention to oil delivery ports (small holes in arms) as well as the main delivery port underneath.  These parts are so hard to come by.  Engine is a 1958 235" full pressure-oiler.

TH700R4 Transmission scored locally for $160 w/converter; from '90 Cadillac Fleetwood ~ a shift kit definitely planned; possible home-rebuild if I can self-teach the process.
