SASEBO, Japan (July 3, 2014) The Avenger-class mine countermeasure ship USS Chief (MCM 14) enters port after exiting an ocean-going heavy lift ship with USS Pioneer (MCM 9). Chief and Pioneer will replace USS Avenger (MCM 1) and USS Defender (MCM 2) and be forward deployed to Commander Fleet Activities Sasebo, Japan.
