Tanglewood Park, Clemmons, NC (just outside of Winston-Salem) Huge, beautiful park featuring this aquatic center in the summer ($7 per swimmer on weekends) with a tubing river, children's pool area, and a lap pool with diving board and two slides. It also offers horseback riding, golf, gardens, tennis, an RV campground and trails. It has a great holiday light show November through New Years'.

Bryson City, North Carolina: Bryson City, the next stop on our trip, is considered the Smokies' basecamp for adventure. Bryson City has plenty of craft shops, hotels, restaurants, historic B&Bs and the best access to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Bryson City is also home to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, which offers scenic excursions and a variety of other railroading events throughout the year.
