William Gibson grave....traveling hat salesman died while making door-to-door calls and was buried near Springville. Grave has survived road construction & progress and hangs from a hillside of rural Hwy 11. Date on grave 1827--makes it one of the oldest graves in the county. Rumor has it that it was a death by duel.

Burch's Skating Rink--1957. With all its progress, we had more stuff to do in Springville back in the day---we had a movie theater, a swimming pool and a skating rink. Used to meet my fellow here in Junior High--in the 60's. His church youth group had a skate night....slj

Was a senior at Springville High School in 1969 when the great train derailment happened. That is the day we lost our landmark depot...seen here, burning. It was a very scary day. Gas storage tanks next to the track exploded like a bomb going off. That same year, we all had to be evacuated from the school because of a bomb threat. Never a dull moment....slj (thanks to Matthew Loggins for this photo--his granddad, Carlos Dixon was the depot agent)
