WW II Secrets - In this 1985 photo, John Powell Davies and Colonel James Yule, former prisoners of war at Colditz, examine a Monopoly board at a 50th anniversary celebration of the Hasbro board game, in London. During World War II, doctored Monopoly boards like the one seen here were sent by British intelligence to POW camps in parcels for the prisoners to help them escape. The boards were used to hide currency of the enemy country, silk maps and minute files and hacksaws.
