When World War II broke out in 1939, Cusworth Hall was expected to help the war effort. Half the Hall and the grounds were taken over by the Army. Cusworth became an administrative HQ (headquarters) for with many different units including the Royal Corps of Signals, Royal Army Medical corps, search light batteries and drivers from the ATS.
