Steve and Jeri Wakefield had the idea nine years ago to build an amazing tree house for their grandsons, Lincoln and Sullivan Scott, in their Dallas backyard. It took three months to build the initial structure, a air-conditioned, electrically lit space.
The residence Lodge Bukit Lawang is located in Sumatra, Indonesia, on a site adjacent to a sanctuary for orangutans. The customer required the house to operate as a private residence, while also providing separate accommodation for tourists. Built from locally available materials, the design is inspired by the nomadic orangutan nests built into the treetops. The design consists of separate sections of lightweight housing is located on a hillside, unified under a single roof fold.
