8.Maja and Celestina/Date:1825. La Celestina is pivotal piece of Spanish Literature written in 1499 centering on the love affair of two people and the witchcraft of the Madame Celestina. Goya painted many scenes of this vile woman and often alongside a young low class Maja, a peasant woman. Both carry Spanish symbols of feminine witchcraft and sexual power over men. They were to Spanish society everything wrong in women.
