If you’d rather skip the rental, we took on the region by train and bus and here’s how you can do the same! Day 1-3: We started with Strasbourg as our home base (highly recommend!) because it’s well-connected by trains to the rest of the towns. You could easily spend 3 days here just because it’s the capital of Alsace with plenty of things to see. Day 4: We hopped on a train to Colmar and took the Christmas shuttle to Eguisheim. Both really stunning Alsatian towns but the shuttle was frankly a bit of a nightmare with long lines and infrequent bus timings. Sadly, the only way to get to Eguisheim via public transport so we didn’t have a choice. Spoiler alert: it gets better from here! Day 5: Train over to explore Sélestat in under 20 minutes, the capital of the Christmas tree, and then bus over to Ribeauvillé for medieval vibes that transport you back in time. Day 6: For Obernai, the 30-minute train from Strasbourg was pretty straightforward. The town is seriously underrated with much less crowds and a quaint Christmas market. Day 7: We wrapped up our week with a trip to Mulhouse, which is a bit more off the beaten path but worth checking out. Think colorful street art, fascinating museums, and a unique vibe that makes it totally worth the trip. So, is it possible to explore Alsace without a car? Yes. Is it always easy? No. But if you’re okay with a little extra planning, patience, and flexibility, you can make it work. Have you traveled to Alsace without a car?
