Celebrating Fine Craftsmanship

On the evening of 10th June, Opulent Living curated an elegant evening to bring Van Ryn’s Collection Reserve and Rolls-Royce Motorcars together to celebrate fine craftsmanship. Bespoke designer Alex Innes, from the UK headquarters, specifically flew in to South Africa for the evening to convene with Distell Master Brandy distiller Brink Liebenberg in an elegant setting at The Hyatt Regency Hotel, Rosebank.

One of the guests of honour of the evening, the 30-year-old AU.RA from Van Ryn's Reserve Collection.  Lovingly crafted from 30-year-old pot still brandy and set aside until achieving its unique golden colour and distinctive smooth-as-liquid-gold taste, AU.RA is a super premium brandy created with one sole intent – to be the best in the world.

Brandies drawn from the vats are carefully blended to achieve the ideal marriage of flavours and then given time to settle before bottling.

The Van Ryn's cellar uses small oak vats not larger than 340 litres not only for the three years prescribed by law for South Africa potstilled brandies, but mostly for the duration of the maturation period. The smaller the barrel, the greater the impact of the wood that imparts spicy, nutty aromas and flavours.

It all starts with a simple, beautiful fruit. Chenin Blanc and Colambar grapes are used to make the Van Ryn's brandies. They have a high natural fruit-acid content, essential in brandy making, and also impart vibrant fruit and floral flavours.
