I love wine. In particular I love South African wine and am incredibly patriotic about our beautiful wines. All of the wines featured here have been tasted by me... Some of them are excellent and others are what I believe to be plonk...
An elegant and beautiful wine that is sadly being put out to pasture... If you can find a bottle BUY IT. It's a great mix of verdelho & viognier. It's unique and soft and fruity... I'm very sad this chapter of my Cavalli life is coming to an end... I just hope they continue creating dazzling wines that soothe the sadness of not having access to this anymore.
Hands down one of the best examples of MCC. Usually I drink bubbles at any time of the year or day so it's lost a bit of its "occasion" element. However I wouldn't bust open a bottle of this unless it was a special occasion... It's 100% Chardonnay and it's got all the stuff any tasting tour guide usually says it has.. "brioche" "toast" "zesty" and all that jazz. I don't care about any of that it's delicious and that's all that matters. Mix it with OJ and I WILL come after you in your sleep.
What a treat it is to have friends like mine who bought me this fine chardonnay for my birthday. I sampled it at the establishment and it was incredible. I lovingly stroke it on my wine rack and dream of the day I will succumb and indulge. It's chardonnay perfection.
Ambeloui is a secret... so I shouldn't be telling you about this... it's for people in the "know" so to speak. I'm not giving away the location but every year on the 1st November they sell their magical MCC on a "first come first served" basis... Stupidly I only bought a case this year... next year I will be there at the crack of dawn hammering down their door to get more... "Artisan" has become a little passe but truly these chaps are clever. But this is a secret...
Served slightly chilled this is absolutely delicious. Perfect for afternoon drinking with good company. Light and refreshing with good fruity flavour and a touch of acidity to assure you that you're actually drinking wine.
This really is a GEM of a wine. A dangerously drinkable wine with lots of character and smooth edges. An excellent blend that pairs very well with food or just as easily without. Highly recommended if you can find it.
I have a love affair with this wine... it tastes like coming home... to Cavalli which is where I want to be buried. Seriously I don't care that the estate is the embodiment of money and wealth it's so glorious and delicious. Also the labels and tasting room are tres chic. If you care it's a blend (Chard, Chen & Verd) and it's the perfect mix of creamy and fruity. YUM.
I wanted to hate this place because it smells like money... I found myself leaving clutching cases and cases of wine... Turns out rich people sell wine at reasonable prices because they're over making profit... Seriously though it's astonishing here and my conflicted value system doesn't care! I return often... it's a favourite. There I said it.
If you head to Somerbosch you'll be able to pick up a bottle for which is excellent value. I'm not sure how long this offer will last for but it certainly is a bargain! Any time drinking bubbles for the win!
My new favourite easy drinking guzzler... For R48 a bottle it's VERY reasonable and certainly a lot better than what else you'll get for this price range. The semillon softens up the lively sauvignon blanc so the results are crisp and clean. For midweek drinking of a frugal nature look no further!
Shiraz (Syrah grown in hot climate) is an SA favourite and they often whack you over the head with overzealous enthusiasm. Syrah (cool climate) is gentler and more restrained. This one is simply delicious.
As smooth as Ron Moss. but not boring or vanilla. A really interesting Merlot. which is strange because usually Merlot is the safe word in any relationship. This little red dress will surprise and delight.
