Biltong - differs from jerky in two distinct ways: The meat used in biltong can be much thicker while jerky is normally very thin meat. The vinegar and salt in biltong along with the drying process, cures the meat as well as adding texture and flavour. Jerky is dried without vinegar.

Picnic Bread (From South Africa) This is the perfect road food, fisherman's lunch, school lunch bread, breakfast ... I can't be without this recipe, given to me long ago by a friend. It definitely does not need butter -- just slice and eat. Please note that this does not pretend to be a low-fat recipe! It is meant for long days away from home, when one slice means sustenance.

Originated in South Africa, but actually from the heart of India – the ‘Bunny Chow’ is a dish which started out as a necessity but soon became a delicacy! Indians (mostly workers) traditionally ate roti and beans, but they were not allowed to enter shops or restaurants. So, instead of roti bread was used as a substitute to make the dish a take-away food. Bread was hollowed out and filled with beans and other vegetable curries. Meat fillings also became popular later on.

Bunny Chow- curry in a half loaf white bread. A Durban city speciality. I love this combination of shrimp and chicken with a very spicy curry, but you can make bunny chow with any curry recipe you wish.
