A friend's mom had a ballerina jewellery box that playd Für Elise when you opened it. I never tired of watching the tiny ballerina turning... and of course the mom could always hear when we sneaked into her room to play with it... I was entranced.

My grandmother had a similar imbuia ball-and-claw display cabinet filled with ceramic figurines and other knick-knacks. The doors were always firmly locked and we weren't allowed to touch anything. My sister, cousin and I spent hours with our noses pressed against the glass, negotiating who would inherit what. Ouma Babs died when I was 14. I don't know what happened to the cabinet...
