Carl von Marr (1858 - 1936) / Drawings
Born in Milwaukee in 1858, Carl Marr demonstrated a talent for drawing at a young age. His artistic training would have focused heavily on still-life drawings, exercises in perspective, and studies of classical sculpture. It was not uncommon for students to spend two days simply creating the outline of a drawing. The Museum of Wisconsin Art contains a large collection of his student drawings which helps illustrate the rigorous curriculum at the German Academies.
