The Shweshwe fabric is a widely used material in South Africa, and is a cloth that holds strong cultural ties to our heritage in southern Africa! For years, the fabric, named “Seshweshwe” or “Seshoeshoe, has been used to make traditional attire mainly in the Northern Sotho (Pedi), Southern Sotho (Sotho), Tswana and Xhosa cultures! In as much as we would love to claim it as our own, the shweshwe print in fact originates from Europe.
