Origin of the Fae - The Cailleach

Faerie is the home of all Fae, yet they've managed to infiltrate the Human Realm and make it their home. They've even forged bonds of friendship with human magic-users. This companion book (works with "The Adventures of Saphira the Faery Dog", "Stories on Scrolls", "Tales of the Onyx Labyrinth" and more) lists everything magical and monstrous. For more detail on each - especially the folklore - check out my blog "Ronel the Mythmaker". All this information can be found on "The Origin of the…

who was the old woman of beare?

Who was the Cailleach Bheara? She appears as a mysterious and shadowy figure hovering around the edges of Irish folklore and myth, yet very little is known about her. The word cailleach has come to mean ‘hag’, or ‘crone’, yet in Old Gaelic it actually means ‘veiled one’.

Cailleach Bheur is also known as Old Woman Winter. The Cailleach is a Celtic Goddess, the embodiment of winter reborn every Samhain or Halloween. She is then turned to stone, or to a tree, or to a young woman every Beltane, in the month of May.
