For the continued success of the Midlands Meander route it is important to protect the natural environment, to assist communities through skills training and education, to encourage entrepreneurship, and to increase pride in the area among all sectors of the community. In 2003 the Midlands Meander Association Education Project was launched as the Social and Environmental Responsibility Programme of the Midlands Meander Association.

ZuluWaters Game Reserve on the Midlands Meander (www.midlandsmeander.co.za)  founded and supports the Dalton Education Trust which provides Early Childhood Development with a focus in non-violent communication and providing children with skills necessary for later in life. The trust has two centers: the Sakhithemba Resource Centre in Dalton Bridge and the Siyazama Centre for Early Education in Ezindikini.
