A great example of change employment structure. A hundred years ago, many worked in coal mining (primary) or in the cotton mills (manufacturing or secondary). Today, these jobs have largely disappeared to be replaced by jobs in retail, banking and the business sector (tertiary).
River Severn , Central England, Summer 2007 An example of a river flooding event. Heavy rainfall through June caused flooding. This meant that the ground was already saturated and could not allow further water to soak in. Heavy rain during July 19th and 20th caused widespread flooding all across Central England. One person drowned in June floods. A bridge near Ludlow collapsed. Thousands of motorists were stranded on the M5 motorway, travel ground to a halt.

Wendover - a town divided HS2 - High Speed 2 - an example of a major planning issue. A brand new high speed railway which is set to be built from a terminus at Euston, London Will be built in 2 phases – firstly to Birmingham in 2026 and secondly to Manchester and Leeds to be completed by 2032. Also linked to existing network to serve 18 cities in total.

Hurricane Katrina – An example of a tropical storm. Primary - storm surge at the eye of the storm, where extreme low pressure caused the sea-level to rise dramatically. The tidal wave causes serious flooding across the city. 1800 people killed, two-thirds of whom were drowned by the storm surge. 300,000 homes destroyed. Secondary – Shops in New Orleans were looted in the days following. Community relation broke down. 230,000 jobs lost from damaged business and downturn in tourism.
Coniston in the Lake District. Beautiful waterfalls like this put extreme pressure on honeypot sites such as Coniston which attract huge amounts of tourists, especially at weekends and bank holidays. These honeypots suffer huge problems with a lack of parking, traffic congestion and footpath erosion. Second home ownership also causes conflict in many parts of the Lake District.
Limpopo province is a very poor region in South Africa. People migrate from here to nearby Johannesburg due to many push factors, including machines replacing people in farming, unreliable food and water supplies and disease. Pull factors attract people to the 'bright lights' of the city.
West Runton Beach
Longshore drift - swash pushes material up the beach at an angle, backwash drags the material directed down the beach at a 90 degree angle to the shoreline. Note the hard engineering structure which protects the cliffs behind.
North Norfolk coast - Cromer looking towards East Runton. Note how the coast is protected where the sea wall exists but the cliffs slump dramatically after where they are not protected. The land beyond the sea wall is only used for a caravan site, which can easily be pulled back from the coast if it is in danger of collapse.

Loggerheads (rural area at the edge of N-u-L) –Standard of living. Lower youth unemployment (23%). Very low levels of fuel poverty, mainly affluent. High qualification levels and GCSE results. High house prices, mostly owner occupied. Quality of life - Low crime levels, lower than average obesity rates, lower levels of cigarette, alcohol and drug dependency. Therefore higher than average life expectancy and more than average people consider themselves to be healthy.
Originally, El Raval was a run-down, deprived area of Barcelona with a high population of immigrants from Morocco and Pakistan. The area has many services which caters for their needs, such as mosques and halal butchers for the large muslim population and youth centres for the many young people. The area has recently undergone gentrification, which means that it has been improved by knocking down old, worn out buildings to create open space and regenerating the historic ones.
