Apartheid was an institutionalized system of racial segregation enforced by the National Party (Nasionale Party) government in South Africa from 1948 to 1994. The term apartheid comes from the Afrikaans word meaning ”separateness.” The era of apartheid in South Africa is infamous for its utter dehumanization, impoverishment and all-around discrimination against a native population.
