The SS Cape Matapan steaming out of Cape Town
Built in 1925, the Cape Matapan was a steam powered fishing boat of the Irvin and Johnson fleet. On 20 April 1960 the 321 ton trawler sank in Table Bay after being in a collision with the Bulby, another of the company’s vessels. The collision occurred in heavy fog at about noon and the trawler is reported to have gone down in just over ten minutes. The crew transshipped to the Bulby without injury or loss of life.

Hout Bay's Leopard perched on a rock beneath the start of Chapman's Peak
The bronze leopard of Hout Bay was sculptured by Ivan Milford-Barberton. Completed in 1963, it was placed on its pedestal on 14th March that year by the Divisional Council. Pepsi-Cola supported the project and donated the bronze. The sculpture is a memorial to the many wild animals that once roamed the mountains of the peninsula. The last leopard seen in Hout Bay was in 1937 on Little Lion's Head Information: Hout Bay Museum

Llandudno
Llandudno circa 1900.
In 1905 the first house was erected and by 1930 there were two residents living there permanently (the others were holiday cottages). After the arrival of electricity in 1947 the expansion of the settlement gained in momentum and with the road being tarred in 1954 it became a very sought after area.
