Gloves probably made for Frederick II, probably 1220, Kunsthistorisches Museum These were likely made for the coronation of Frederick II in 1220.  The right glove still exists as well but it’s missing most of its embroidery.  It’s still interesting, though, because the lines drawn on to help guide the embroiderer are still visible. For medieval physicians, the mnemic apparatus of choice was what is sometimes today known as a folding almanac or a belt book. There are thought to be just 29 such almanacs that have survived to the present day. The almanacs contained detailed astrological calendars, lunar tables, diagrams of the human body and so on necessary for the practice of lunar medicine during the 15th century. They were small and strung onto a cord that attached to a physcian’s girdle or belt.

This beautiful doublet is one of only two, known surviving examples of its type from the 1620s. The other is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (London). The doublet is made of quality silk and is designed with pinking and decorative slits. This design was the height of fashio for a short period in 1620s -- Pinking (the intentional slashing of fabric) was a technique used to reveal colorful linings or underlying shirts & chemises.

The history of the tear bottle is captivating and poignant. Legends of tear bottles or lachrymatories abound in stories of Egypt and middle eastern societies. Tear bottles were prevalent in ancient Roman times, when mourners filled small glass vials with tears and placed them in burial tombs as symbols of love and respect.
