We went on a night-drive where we went into the riverbed and found 14 little chameleons. It was so good to see so many of them still around! 📷: Ranger Graeme P . . . #leopardmountain #leopardmountainsafarilodge #rangergraeme #manyoniprivategamereserve #asc #africansafaricollective #unforgettablesafaris #conservation #jab4tourism #smallmatters #reptilesofmanyoni
With some light rain we had yesterday evening has sparked the appearance of Flying Ants (Flying Alates), they will come out in thousands to breed and start new colonies. Many species take advantage of this brief period as they are high in protein, so far we have already seen Tawny Eagle’s, many smaller birds and even Spotted Hyena and Leopard cubs have been seen catching them.
Another local seeking shelter is this beautiful Velvet Gecko, they have been known to get up to 120mm in length and that’s just the body. The scales on this species slightly overlap giving it a velvet–like feel. They are on the International Union for Conservation of Nature list due to their rarity.
