P-51C / RAF Mustang III. A fantastic Anglo-American achievement. An American aircraft, built to a British specification. Powered by a Rolls Royce Merlin engine, licence built by Packard in America. Modified in Britain to utilise the 'Malcom' hood/canopy. Regarded as the best version of the Mustang, and one of the greatest weapons of WW2.
World War II in colour - England, circa 1945 Ace American pilot Lieutenant Colonel Francis S. Gabreski poses in a cockpit. The flags refer to the 28 enemy planes brought down by Gabreski. If you look closely above the swastikas it names the type of plane shot down.
