Icelander Palli Kristjánsson is carrying on that tradition. Using natural materials also available in the Viking Age he brings them to light in today's modern times in a new and highly artistic way. With his artistic approach to knife making he creates therefore, decorated knives that evoke the feral surroundings of his native land and the Age of his Viking forefathers.
At age 20 Saint Martin the Merciful (4th cent Gaul) gave all to the poor. He only kept a set of clothes and a knife. It was harsh winter. Seeing a beggar at the city gates, he cut his cloak and gave him half. That night he dreamed the Lord was wearing it and telling Angels, "Martin even before his Baptism has covered Me with this cloth, and I shall clothe him in glory, and at death I shall call him into My Kingdom." The saint immediately baptized and spent his life helping people. (Feb 13)
