James V, King of Scotland James V, father of Mary Queen of Scots, was the only surviving son of James IV and Margaret Tudor and was born on or around 10th April, 1512 at the Palace of Linlithgow in West Lothian. James V of Scotland - After he & his men ambushed and killed Johnnie (Armstrong) of Gilnockie and his men in 1530: "Scotland had not only lost her strongest frontier chief, but the clans under, or in alliance w/ him were by his murder so incensed and alienated fm their King that reliance could no longer be placed upon their fidelity in the hour of need." (Chronicles of the Armstrongs) Killed w/ Johnnie were mbrs of the Elliot, Irving & Little clans.
