Portrait of a Young Girl (1939) | by Irma Stern (1894-1966). Irma Stern was born in 1894 in Schweizer-Reneke in South Africa to German-Jewish parents. At the time of the Boer War, her parents returned to Germany, where they lived until 1920. In Germany Irma studied art. In 1920 she returned to her homeland and held her first exhibition in Cape Town in 1922.
