There is controversy in South Africa's Parliament over opposition claims that the government committee which is meant to approve arms sales abroad has failed to control the export of South African-made weapons and has sold ammunition to Zimbabwe
34/202 Battalion was founded in 1975 as 34 Battalion and based at Rundu. With the creation of SWATF in 1980 it was renamed to 202 Battalion. It performed the important mission of providing the main mobile reserve element for Sector 20 as well as protecting the main supply route to Rundu from Grootfontein. The unit was predominantly ethnic Kavango.
