Braai & Potjiekos

Two of the most traditional ways of outdoor cooking in South Africa. A Braai is a cookout/bbq grill/barbie depending on which country you come from. Potjiekos - The first Dutch settlers arrived in the Cape, they brought with them heavy cast iron pots, (potjies) which hung from the kitchen hearth above the fire. The Bantu people who were migrating into South Africa, used the cast iron cooking pot from Arab traders and Portuguese colonists.
