"Perhaps the most famous star cluster on the sky, the bright stars of the Pleiades can be seen without binoculars from even the depths of a light-polluted city. With a long exposure from a dark location, though, the dust cloud surrounding the Pleiades star cluster becomes very evident. The featured exposure, taken from Florida, USA, covers a sky area several times the size of the full moon." | Image Credit & Copyright: Damien Cannane Pleiades Star Cluster, Monitor Wallpaper, Planets Images, Projector Photography, The Seven Sisters, Famous Star, Astronomy Facts, Star Clusters, Astronomy Pictures

Hubble Space Telescope on Instagram: "A handful of bright stars are strewn across the cosmos like sparkling sequins on velvet in this new Hubble image of a section of Messier 67. M67 is an open star cluster, which means that its over 500 stars are loosely grouped together by their mutual gravity. This is one of the oldest known open clusters at approximately 4 billion years of age – about the same as our Sun! Image description: A scattering of white and reddish stars against black space. This star-studded image from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope depicts globular cluster NGC 6717, which lies more than 20,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Sagittarius. Globular clusters are roughly spherical collections of stars tightly bound together by gravity. The bright foreground stars at the center of the image reside between Earth and the cluster, and are distinguished by the crisscross diffraction spikes that form when their light interacts with the structures supporting…
