a person is stitching fabric on top of a table with a sewing machine in the background

We had an ice storm in the early part of January and while we were house bound by the weather I discovered “slow stitching.” I fell in love with the process and the meditative qualities of these small hand stitching projects and I thought you might also like them! What is slow stitching? Slow st

a close up of a piece of cloth with flowers on it

I've been doing more slow stitching in the evenings, sitting on the sofa surrounded by tiny scraps of fabric and colourful threads, needles, pins and scissors at the ready. I so enjoyed sewing my Slow Stitching - Shapes that I thought I would do something similar but with a flower theme. These are all about 6" square and, as with the "Shapes" I didn't plan any of the sewing, but just let the pictures evolve. I stitched maybe one row around ... and then didn't get any further. Life, generally, just got in the way of any sewing. This morning, up too early for a Sunday as I had to drop my daughter at work by 7am, I sat in my sewing room when I got back and thought I'd add a couple of rows to my…

a piece of cloth with some scissors and thread in it on a wooden table next to a pair of scissors

Today I am stitching on a new type of quilt that I started this week. I was watching The Quilt Show episode 2705 and Sujata Shah was showing the Kawandi scrap quilt method. It is so different than anything I have seen before and I had to start my version. Here is what I have done so far........ You start by hand stitching pieces from the outside and go all around. I am deciding the next patchwork piece as I come to each. So far.....this is so fun! The start is using a very thin piece of…
