The rodeo clown is one of the few types of clowns whose performance routinely involves danger. His job is to distract the bulls after the bull riders have been thrown off or dismounted, and there is always a chance he might be trampled or gored as he dances in front of these large, powerful animals - distracting them rather too well - but ensuring the escape of the riders. I imagine this clown studying the arena and waiting for when his act will be needed - comedy, but with a serious streak.
