two blue and white quilts are hanging on the wall

After whipping up eight mug rugs out of Holiday-themed tumblers, I turned my attention to blocks of the month (BOMs). First up were my "Sisters" quilt along blocks. I had September's Ribbon Star to do, in both the 12" and 6" sizes. And then there were the January and February blocks I hadn't done - Dutchman's Puzzle and Star of Hope (one of my favorites). Next I started a bunch of new Rainbow Scrappy Challenge blocks. This month's color is red, and I decided to make "Pop Star" blocks…

several pieces of fabric laid out on a cutting board with numbers and measurements for each piece

This is my take on a traditional Christmas Star block. It would look pretty great in holiday fabric, but I would hate to see it pigeon-holed as strictly that, so I'm calling it Ribbon Star. The tutorial makes a 12.5" block. Cutting:

This has been one heck of a month for reasons I don’t have to mention. Everyone’s finding comfort in things that make them happy. Quilting and knitting are keeping my hands busy and my mind occupied. I was really happy to get this quilt top finished and I’m hoping to get it quilted within the next week. I’m just waiting for delivery of some batting since my LQS is closed for now. I really think they should have been considered an essential business. This photo was taken before adding the…

Good day Quilters! Welcome to my stop on the Inspired by Fabric Star Sampler Blog Hop sponsored by Fabri-Quilt. When contacted by Lisa and asked if I would like to participate, I jumped at the chance. Here's the star I selected! It has a very traditional look but is pieced together in a much simpler way. So let's get started! And there you have it! For a chance to win one of 3 fat quarter bundles of Marblehead Venetian Glass, sign up to follow Inspired by Fabric on their blog (using the…

a quilted wall hanging with different colors and designs on it's sides, including an arrow

Correction After glancing at my phone this morning to check this blog post, I had this feeling that something about my Ribbon Star didn't look quite right. While computer generating the block, I had turned all the half squares. I like the "new" design, too, but don't let it confuse you. This is the correct block. It really does look like a star. The instructions are correct. Happy Wednesday! Block #40 - Ribbon Star by Lynne Hagmeier I can't believe we're on the last round of 13 designers…

Hello Everyone, I posted another tutorial covering the construction of the corner blocks for A Ribbon Runs Through It. Those of you who have kits may want to work ahead, and make a few of these blocks for a change of pace. After I make each component, I place it on the block layout sheet in the correct orientation. This sheet helps to eliminate errors. Prior to cutting, I spray my fabric with Faultless Heavy Duty Spray Starch. It makes all the difference in the world. After I thoroughly soak…

a large quilt with many crosses on it

This quilt, when finished will be for the family cabin we are building in the mountains. I need to add the border yet, but need your advice. I was considering the dark red windowpane flannel for the border. Should I use the same backing as the border? Can you use flannel as a backing on a quilt or is that too heavy? What about flannel for the binding? Thanks in advance!
