an orange penguin book cover with the words penguin books written in black and white on it

A wise woman (my mother) asked me what was up with the vintage-looking Penguin cover that read “Go Away I’m Reading” in my last post. I always do as my mother tells me (right mom?…

Cover of "The "Big Sleep" by Raymond Chandler. (1962) What a clever visual pun! And I love the old Penguin convention of telling you which category the book is from (crime) and which book in the series it is by using #/# (3/6 in this case) st the top. Well designed!

Being bored kicks in with a lot of things to experiment and making penguin classics covers for books was something I quite enjoyed. Here are some of the covers I thought would be suitable for the books that I've read and enjoyed a lot! I tagged some of my friends here and if you feel like to try this, please consider yourself tagged! I'd be glad to see your creations! #bookreview #book #bookcover

Paul Hogarth by William Smith in 1969 When I was a student at Cambridge Art School, Paul Hogarth RA (1917 – 2001), the famous reportage artist, was a visiting lecturer. He encouraged us to 'go out and draw' and 'use our eyes'. Good advice. It really hones your observational skills. Paul Hogarth was born in 1917 in Kendal, Cumbria. In 1923 his family and he moved to Manchester. He attended the Manchester School Of Art from 1934 to 1936, where he became involved in the Artists' International…

the cover of what ever happened to baby jane? by henry fariell, illustrated by penguin classic

I was browsing through my most favorite blog/source for inspiration, The Apple and the Egg, the other day when I came across these Penguin Classics redesigned. Aren't they lovely? I of course love the use of color and pattern! They were all designed by Ian Bilbey, who has quite the portfolio. This one is totally channeling Marimekko. I could never get into the Little House on the Prairie books, but I am loving this cover.
