I carved this "Ollie the Otter" diorama for my grandpa just before he died of cancer. The sea otter is sawn in half and glued to both sides of the glass. The posts, sand, driftwood, seaweed, and shells are all glued to the block of wood, as well as a strip of a pirate map bandana. The chain is there to hint at a shipwreck nearby, and I got the shells from Gulf Shores. The seaweed, an artificial flower leaf, is cut and dipped in polyurethane to make it stiff enough to stand on its own.

The background, I just went online and print out some and it depends what animals your kids got assign or choose. I use shiny lace to add glow on the water and looks like they are continues flow. Play doh for the fish and the Bear from Target. The rest of the materials like the grass, stone and the brown suede look like a soil all are from Joann the fabric store.
