a woman standing next to a large quilt

Yes, it is finished. Better yet, it was a big hit at Quilt Market in Houston. The women of Cotton + Steel asked if it could be in their booth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so excited. Rashida hammed it up for the camera. This is where the quilt hung out for most of market. Millie debuted at the Martingale school house for Katja's book "The New Hexagon." Year two for Katja at Market. Congratulations. Katja introduced her new quilt along starting January 2016. Click here for info on the Millefiore and…

I dragged pulled out that hexagon millefiore mess quilt and decided I had let it linger too long. Waaaaay too long, and that it had lurked, like some amorphous creeping thing in the corner of my g…

an orange, red and gold patterned fabric

I've picked my fabric for the centre hexagon in the January rosette in Katja Marek's The New Hexagon Millefiori Quilt Along. The toughest part is picking the fabric. I chose this print is called Kensington by Quilting Treasures. I originally bought this fabric because I thought it would be perfect for fussy cutting. I love the rich coral colour. I made myself a little window template and moved it around until I was happy with what I was seeing. These are the patches I cut out; they are ready…

a red and white quilt is hanging on the wall

I didn't think I'd manage it, but here it is ... a Christmas post. Nothing like a last minute deadline.... I finished the hand quilting on my Four Block applique quilt and bound it just in time to hang it with the Christmas tree. I'm just so glad I returned to hand quilting again - different technique and tools - and finally found a way that is pain free for me and totally enjoyable. Here are some closeups of the quilting - not perfection in hand quilting, but it has the soft traditional…

It's just about time! Are you getting excited like me? On January 1st the Millefiore Quilt Along will get started designed and hosted by Katja. a large quilt with many colorful flowers on it

And with this Rosette (#10b), I finished up The New Hexagon Millefiore Quilt-A-Long. Contractually. At least according to the rules of the The New Hexagon Millefiore Game. But I really hate the crenellated edges. I don't mind the zig-zag edges on the sides, and have loved what others have done, by appliqueing the quilt down…

a large quilt made out of many different colored buttons on the front and back of it

Six months in the making and the hexagon charm quilt top is finished! I have hand pieced 1,033 pieces of 1 1/2" hexagons to achieve the required size. The top measures at 72" x 73" There are no straight borders for this quilt as my daughter loves the hexagon shaped edging and wanted me to leave it as such. I'll be adding more hexagons for the backing edges once the quilting is done. It'll be backed with Topiary from the Parisville line by Tula Pink - it's one of my daughter's favourite…
