28601 - Greater Manchester Transport (Greater Manchester PTE) Leyland Atlantean GM Standard Double Deck Bus (Version A)

Little did I realise when I took this picture in 1981 that only 15 years later it would have become an historical view. GMPTE 8629 (FRV 269V) emerges from the gloomy cavern that was the Arndale bus station. I'm sure this was also called Canon Street bus station. This part of the building (by which I mean an entire city block) and Canon Street itself has vanished in the rebuild of this part of Manchester that was precipitated by the IRA bomb detonated on 15th June 1996.
