Princess Elizabeth, daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn and half-sister to Mary I. The painting is attributed to William Scrots and was painted in the last years of Henry’s reign. This was painted at a time when Elizabeth and her sister enjoyed a friendly relationship, prior the days when it would become incredibly strained on grounds of religion and politics (and to some degree parentage).

‘Portrait of a lady called Lady Jane Grey’, by Henry Pierce Bone, c.1844. Enamel on copper; 10.8 x 8.5cm. The miniature was purchased by Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria, in 1844 to add to the couple’s growing collection of portraits of sixteenth-century figures. Lady Jane Grey, artist unknown, c.1553? Notice there is no hood showing at the back of the neck area. It seems that black hoods can optionally be left off, leaving the cap or coif visible, along with the other parts that usually make up the French hood. I'm not sure what this hoodless style would have been called in the period.
