Jaw surgery

Mouth breathing, dry mouth, jaw pain, difficulty chewing, and an inability to bite led me to double jaw surgery. Here are my results.

Jaw surgery, or orthognathic surgery is usually done in combination with braces, Invisalign, or some other orthodontic procedure.

On Thursday, August 23, 2018 I had double jaw surgery. This included a Le Fort 3 Osteotomy on my upper jaw and a Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy on my lower jaw. This corrective jaw surgery (otherwise known as orthognathic surgery) was done to fix skeletal and dental irregularities I was born with. The upper jaw was repositioned upward and forward and the lower jaw was set back to correct the underbite and to improve profile, smile and appearance.

Orthognathic surgery is designed to improve basic orofacial functions such as breathing, chewing & speaking. Patients are usually discharged after surgery.
