the free motion quilting with freezer paper is an easy project for beginners

Free motion quilting can be tricky to get the hang of when you are just starting out. One thing that can make it easier and less intimidating is drawing or transferring the quilting design or motif onto the quilt top or project. Ashley Hough shows you how to do this using freezer paper, which eliminates the need to draw directly on the fabric.

a colorful quilt with the words how i used freezer paper in 3 different ways

I mentioned before that, finishing the bubbles quilt (which I eventually named "Color of Lightness, Color of Joy"), I realized that I had used freezer paper in three different ways in the process of making it. That's a good illustration of its versatility and usefulness for the quilt-building industry! And that's by no means an exhaustive list, I personally use it in two different ways for hand appliqué and for curved piecing as well (but that's a different story). As I didn't plan to write…

two folded pieces of paper sitting on top of a cutting mat next to each other

What comes to your mind when you think about foundation paper piecing? I always think - No thank you! Because I dread removing papers. A few years back I made couple of New York beauty quilts which were foundation paper pieced. I swore I would never do it again because tearing papers off was too time consuming and tedious. a close up of a sewing machine with some fabric on it

When I shared my first feathered star I got a few comments about using the freezer paper foundation piecing method. I tried to respond, but for some reason some of my comments/responses are not going through - so I'm not sure if it worked. I used the same method recently for making butterfly blocks for Chelsea's Round Trip Quilts center, and I thought I'd share it here. Self drafted 4" square (finished) butterfly blocks. The first thing your going to need to do is trace or print your paper…
