As delighted as I always am when someone gives me a gorgeous bouquet of ranunculus, or daisies, or tea roses, my joy is always tinged with the tiniest bit of sadness. It isn’t that I don’t appreciate the gift — because I definitely do (note to S.O.: Peonies are still my favorite, thanks!). It’s more that I can’t seem to stop my mind from time-traveling a few days into the future when my bouquet’s beautiful blooms begin to fade.
