Esther and mordecai

Mordecai or Mordechai adopted his Uncle's daughter (Esther 2:7), Hadassah (Esther), an orphan child, whom he brought up as if she were his own daughter. By Esther and Mordecai's intervention with king Ahasuerus, they delivered the Jews from wholesale execution. The Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance of wholesale execution of the Jews by Haman's militia is called Purim.
