Back in 2019, @coleydot.art taught me that spackle makes a great fake icing. When I approached 40, it felt like a very reasonable thing to use that genius bit of info and make a hat into a cake. Plus, I’ve been making a bunch of old hats into new and impractical creations so it really just fit my current lifestyle.

Here’s how you can DIY your own birthday cake hat:
Cover the brim with fabric. I used adhesive spray that I picked up from @joann_stores and scrap fabric from @spoonflower to match my dress and wallpaper. Leave some room around the edge, cut from the outside to the brim in small sections, and fold over & adhere.
