There is much debate as to their origins. It was the Spanish who first coined the term Apache, believed to come from a Pueblo word for enemy. MANY TRIBES LABELLED APACHE WERE NOT ENEMIES OF THE ANCESTRAL PUEBLO PEOPLES. IN SOME CASES THEY ARE THE SAME PEOPLE, HAVING MERGED TO WARD OFF THE 'PEOPLE EATERS'.
